Precious, an installation of brown paper shopping bags and flashing rear bicycle lights, transforms banal, everyday objects into a dizzying, magical display of fast and continuously changing patterns of light and dark. Set at differently timed intervals, the red lights flash on and off, creating an optically complex spectacle that engages viewers seductively on an experiential level whilst also encouraging metaphorical readings. Precious plays knowingly with connotations of the bag as a vessel, that is, a classical reference to the womb and to female morphology more generally.
